LAWS OF ATTRACTION
Have You Ever Read Laws of Attraction? Don’t worry if you haven’t – I’m about to provide the shortest synopsis in history.
At the heart of the book is a theory – if you dedicate time to focus your mind on goals you want to achieve, they will eventually come true. Now this idea has many merits but there’s also a gaping hole. Have you seen it too? In order for it to work you need to know what your goals are! Which fundamentally overlooks a human attribute that is hard wired in us all.
In order for us to get excited about a journey we must first know our destination. Let me give you an example. Do you recall the commercial (some years ago now) where the parents surprised their kids by writing “You Are Going To Disneyland” on the fridge? They absolutely lost their minds with excitement!
You see – anticipation, buzz and thrill. It all stems from having a sense (however small) of the future. In this example, even though the children had never been to Disneyland. They were aware of its magic through film, TV and ads… And by seeing those words on the fridge their minds catapulted them to imagination island. Think about it. Without any prior knowledge of Disney, it would simply have been words on a fridge without any emotion!
Which leads me to another interesting discovery…
In sourcing interviews for Career Insights, there’s a fair bit of travel involved and to pass the time I often listen to Podcasts. On a recent episode, a guest on the show offered a simple but quite brilliant fact that has been etched on my mind ever since. He explained that discovery and invention create exactly the same chemical reaction in your brain!
To put it another way, when you discover something for the first time – you know that EUREKA moment when something clicks in your mind! It’s exactly how cavemen felt when they invented the wheel or how the Wright brothers felt when they invented the piloted airplane.
Now if you’re wondering what this has to do with Career Insights, I will clarify.
These two illustrations are the underpinnings of Career Insights. By understanding that we (humans) need a snippet of what the future holds and that when we discover it, it sparks a chemical reaction in our brain, you’re creating something truly powerful. This isn’t a pat on the back, far from it – If I had known what I know now, I quite possibly wouldn’t have created Career Insights at all.
Edwin Land (Inventor of the Polaroid) says “a mistake is a failure benefit, the full value of which is yet to be realised”, which perfectly describes our humble beginnings. For if I had found my career calling, or discovered a version of Career Insights, believe me I would have paid far more than what we’re asking (but we’ll get to that later).
To borrow yet another quote, Tony Robbins says “The Key to Happiness is Progress”, which personifies my character rather well – I love learning, creating and moving forward at warp speed. But ask me to “stand still” for any length of time and you’ve uncovered my kryptonite.
Couple this with the sheer amount of career choices out there, the exceptionally poor resources to learn from and the lack of good people to speak too – standing still kind of has an inevitably to it.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do but if you had asked me at the time, I would have told you I did (the impatience talking).
Irrationally I set off on a path I wish I hadn’t (and stuck at it for far longer than I should) … but and it’s a big BUT it led me to create this cool thing: Career Insights
(I know, we could have come up with a better name but Nike was called Blue Ribbon for years before being renamed, so maybe we’ll address that in the future).
THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY
So what do we actually do? Well as the title suggests we find professionals and they provide the good, the bad and the ugly of their jobs. And I’m proud to say it isn’t sugar coated…
It’s not a sales pitch (quite the opposite) – they give you REAL insight. The perks as well as some home truths. And there are even a couple where you’re gonna need some tissues to wipe the tears away (I cried and challenge you not too). It’s intelligent, hardworking, humble people, who have succeeded in climbing the mountain you’re currently reading the brochure too. Giving advice and tips they wish they knew before starting their journey.
Now I could go on and on about how great it is (believe me I want to) but for fear of appearing like a salesman I will leave you with two thoughts:
Please know that Career Insights has opened my eyes to so many careers I didn’t know existed and taught me so much about what it takes to fulfil that role that I’m one hundred percent (100%) confident it will help you too.
Why am I so confident?
Because somehow, this year, we’ve managed to help over one hundred thousand of you (105,122 at the time of writing) and 98.1% of you tell us it’s been a huge help and would recommend us.
SO WHAT DOES IT COST?
Simple, the cost of a good book. Or if you look at it another way “a fraction of a textbook”. Like a good book you can pick it up and dust it off whenever you like – as we’re providing a whole years access (need it extended that’s fine too, just email us and we’ll extend it free of charge). And if Career Insights truly doesn’t help you we’ll give you a full and courteous refund.
So stop listening to me and start listening to the real PROs.
